Sites

  
 
We were able to make on-ice measurements at 30 sites during the cruise. Stops ranged from 1 to 6 hours in duration. The on-ice observations consisted of surveys and point measurements of sea ice morphology and optical properties. The morphology component included surveys of ice thickness and snow depth, as well as measurements of melt pond properties. Ice grains in the surface scattering layer were photographed for an analysis of their size and shape. Later in the cruise snow stratigraphy was measured.

Optical measurements were made at sites selected to encompass the full range of ice types and surface conditions encountered on the cruise. The central component of the optical observations were vertical profiles of in-ice spectral irradiance.

The  measurements made at each site and the site locations are summarized in the table below. The table also provides links to individual summaries for each site.
