The floe was several hundred meters across, with some towering, old ridges. The tallest sail was over 5 m high and there were several other old consolidated ridges that were over two meters tall. The wind-packed surface layer of the snow continues to develop. When walking, you stay on top of the snow about 75% of the time, only breaking through the soft snow that covers the melt ponds. The measurements included a snow depth and ice thickness survey, soot sampling, and a characterization of the snow cover.
