This was a small floe only 85 m long and 20 m across with two big melt ponds. There was considerable complexity, with thin ice and ponds surrounded by hummocks and an area with a highly developed surface scattering layer that was 8-12 cm deep. The measurements included an ice thickness survey, soot sampling, ice cores, and a characterization of the surface scattering layer. In addition the first measurements of light transmission were made.

A 5 m diameter melt pond was sampled. The ice thickness was 1.3 m, with a water depth of 0.35 m, a salinity of 29 psu, and a temperature of -1.5 C.
