Scans were made from the flying bridge of the ship every 5 seconds. This was a higher sampling rate than usual.The ship was in motion during the measurements. The solid black line is the mean for the 28 measurements and the dashed red line the standard deviation. The surface was a mixture of melting bare ice, melt ponds, and open water.
