Radiation

All-wave      Incident     Reflected      Transmitted      Laboratory      Infrared

During HOTRAX a series of observations were made of the shortwave, infrared, and longwave radiation field. The incoming all-wave shortwave and longwave irradiances were monitored throughout the cruise using Eppley longwave and shortwave radiometers. Spectral measurements of incident solar irradiance were made on many occasions during the cruise using an Analytical Spectral Devices spectroradiometer. Similarly, the spectral reflectance of the surface was measured while the ship was in transit. In transit surveys were also made of the infrared temperature of the surface using a KT-19. Profiles of light transmission in the ice were made at some of the ice stations. After the field experiment laboratory measurements of the optical properties of sea ice were made using several of the ice cores that were removed during the ice station work.
