Surveys were routinely conducted to study the evolution of surface morphology. We were particularly interested in the formation and evolution of melt ponds. The surveys were typically conducted along the albedo lines. There were two types of surfaces conducted. One type measured snow or pond depth every meter. In the other (pictured below) a survey laser was used to measure the actual topography of the surface as well as snow and pond depth. Surface surveys were conducted at Elson, Chukchi, Imikpuk, and Tundra sites. |
