Surface: Chukchi Sea

The above figure presents results from a surface topography survey taken along the Chukchi Sea albedo line on 7 June 2001. At this time melting snow is still present along much of the line and melt ponds have just begun to form. Note that the pond surface is above sea level.

The adjacent figure compares distributions of surface elevation measured along the Chukchi Sea albedo line on 4 June 2001 and 14 June 2001. The 10 days of melting between the two sets of measurements increased the topography, as the surface evolved from being fairly flat to a mixture of melt ponds and hummocks.
