Snow stakes were installed at the observation sites for routine time series measurements of snow depth. There was also an intensive snow study period from 30. March to 5 April.

On both ice and tundra, the wind has considerable fetch. It drifts the snow, depositing dunes and eroding them later. The wind interacts with the initial ice and tundra roughness in a complex way to produce a snow cover with a very uneven depth distribution that has important ramifications for energy and mass exchange.
