The overall goal is to acquire, for the Barrow Environmental Observatory,
a comprehensive, multi-year time series of (1) the apportioning of solar
radiation over the marine and terrestrial regimes and (2) the mass balance
of the snow and ice. We wish to compile a dataset that can be used to:
-
Study climate variability of the marine
and terrestrial regimes of the North Slope of Alaska.
-
Investigate the ice-albedo feedback
mechanism in shorefast ice, lake ice, and tundra.
-
Examine thermodynamic linkages and
feedbacks between the terrestrial and marine environments.
-
Develop and test single column climate
models.
-
Understand ecosystems and interactions
between humans and environment.
