Mass Balance: Beaufort

home > mass > gauges > Beaufort

The Beaufort mass balance site, located a few hundred meters offshore on the Beaufort Sea near Point Barrow, was snow-covered ice for most of observation period.  The site was equipped with four thickness gauges (39, 41, 45, 46) and upward- and downward-looking acoustic sensors measuring the positions of the surface and ice bottom. Data from the Beaufort Sea were transmitted via the ARGOS system.

A thermistor string at this site measured vertical profiles of temperature.
